Christmas is great knowing that someone who loves you, is planning something special, specifically with you in mind.

Christmas can be crazy and chaotic, but also a beautiful and meaningful time of year. I like listening to the classic carols, looking at lights and elaborate decorations, and I also love time together with family and friends. I remember making wish lists as a kid by going through the big Sears toy catalog and picking out what looked the most awesome to me. When gifts would be set out under the tree, I would shake the wrapped presents, furiously trying to determine what was in there for me. I didn't always get what I wanted, even though I admit I got more than I really needed.

Christmas can be so meaningful if you know that someone who loves you, is planning something special, specifically with you in mind. My parents did that for me while I was growing up. And now I get to do this for my own children. And I believe God is doing this for each of us everyday, as well.

I recently saw a popular bumper sticker. It said: “Jesus is the reason for the season.” Not too long ago, I received a Christmas card that showed a picture of a young boy with unwrapped gifts all around him - almost overwhelmed with all the presents. The caption on the inside of the card said, “After all is said and done, it’s still Jesus.” I am a Christian, that’s why I find Jesus at the very core of Christmas.

God came to this Earth in such an incredibly humble way – in the form of a baby born in a barn stall. The Christ-child is God's amazing gift to you and me. That's why Christians celebrate Christmas. God has prepared something great for each of us, and the way to that life is through Jesus!

As you begin to see Jesus as God's gift to you, then all the other things God has for you will be given.

Several years ago, I took my family to the Smokey Mountains over the Christmas holidays. We rented a cabin and just hung out. One afternoon we went for a ride deep into the mountains. We listened to beautiful Christmas carols and looked at the quiet beauty around us. I will never forget that time. There was no tinsel and bright lights - just the simplicity of a family thinking about Jesus’ birth and enjoying God’s creation. My hope for all of us is that we will have those quiet moments this holiday season when we realize what is truly important – Jesus truly is the reason for the season.

Have a very Merry Christmas.

I am not so much a big fan as the rest are for Christmas. I mean who doesnt like opening presents that were given to you free no strings, I mean thats prety sweet. But sometimes when i wake up near Christmas i just sit there and want my family back together. I got up on Christmas and checked my phone i had 1 message. This is what it said "Hey man how's christmas what'd you get" i replied to my friend "it's alright i guess some stuff not much" his reply " are you kidding me? atleast your getting presents unlike the homeless" "ya well i would rather be homeless and get nothing and have my family back together and happy then this" he did have anything to reply to that. Christmas time for me is not as great as some people portray it! All big holidays for me aren't great. But i do wish everyone else had a good christmas and a happy new year. I'm not a big christian but i am trying to get back in to christianity i just need a little push back into it...I liked reading your blog THANK YOU!

First And Foremost My Dad Isnt My Real Dad But Ive Accepted Him As A Father Since I Was Two Years Old And I Am Now 14...My Parents Just Recently Divorced In November And Its Basically Torn Me And My Two Brothers Apart. My Brothers Are With My Dad Every Weekend, And Every Holiday. Im A Freshman In Highschool So I Barely See My Brothers When They Are With Me And My Mom And Her New Boyfriend {Who I Really Get Along And Love Him As My Father} Because I Have So Much School Work. I Used To Have Acceptable Grades, But Before Winter Break They Just Hit Rock Bottom. I Can Honestly Say That When My Parents Were Married I Had A Terrible Relationship With Them. My Mom And Dad Were Always Fighting And I Felt Really Alone And Couldnt Talk To Them. Yes, I Do Love My Dad But, Since They Divorced He Doesnt Have Anything To Do With Me And He Still Argues With My Mom Over The Phone About My Stepdad, But My Dads Girlfriend Just Had A Baby This Month. I Guess You Could Say That I Dont Like Him Much Anymore. I Know Its Wrong But He's Put My Mom In Alot Of Stress With Custody Battles And Court, He's Also Put Me Through, I Guess You Could Say Hell. Anyway, To The Point, Im Not Sure About My Religion Anymore. I Used To Go To A Presbytarian Church Until I Turned Four. I Havent Stepped Foot In A Church Until My Eighth Grade Gradutation. Im Sort Of Caught Between Catholicism And Christianity. I Have Absolutley No Clue And I Really Need Help. I Already Have A Best Friend And She Helps Me Through Everything, But I Dont Think She Can Help Me Through Religion. So I Guess Im Asking For Advice On Religion And One More Thing: How To Build A Better Relationship With My Dad. And Oh Ya I Listen To Your Show On 106.9Kzy Every Night That Your On. I Love It, And What Your Doing. Keep It Up(:-Arianna

Dawson this article really speaks out to me, because ou rfamily is very interested and excited about the holiday season. One thing i don't think a lot people think about around Christmas-time is that Christmas really is all about Jesus. I don't regularly attend church, but i know enough about Jesus to realize that not every one celebrates him the way we really should. Thank you for all the work that you do Dawson, and God bless you this holiday season!!

I really think it's awesome when you bring your faith into what you write. You absolutely right Jesus is the reason for the season, without him, you will be left with another empty Christmas! I'm reading some of the other comments and I see that some people are offended. It's awesome you have the courage to speak about the Saviour! I listen to your show every week, thanks so much!

Hi there! I have listened to your show many times as you guide, direct, and speak truth into the lives of young people. I always knew there was a special "light" about you. After listening last night, I decided to check out your web site & it confirmed what I already knew... you love Jesus just as I do. I want you to know I will be praying for your gift in working with youth. By the way, I am a 35 yr old married mom of 2 girls, 12 & 6. I pray that if at some point in their life they are not comfortable getting advice from us, they will be able to seek wisdom & guidance from someone like you that loves the Lord & only wants the best for their lives. Thank you for what you do & keep up the good work!

That's really touching, but you forget that not everyone is Christian and for those of us that aren't, Christmas is just another time for the world to rub into our faces that we are different and they don't care.

Christmas is not about the presents. It is about Jesus. It is good to see the family for the holidays. Christmas to me should be a time of peace and no stress. It is the day that Jesus was sent to earth. I dont really like christmas or this time of year at all. I am not going to say why in public cause no one needs to know. JESUS CHRIST WAS BORN ON CHRISTMAS

christmas is a great time of the year i enjoy spending time with family, it one of the only times most of my family comes around. however the past couple of years just seam to have gone downhill for me.. last year i had just got kicked out of my moms house and wasn't talking to my mom! And this year my aunt has been gone for 6 months working over seas and now she comes home and stirs up all kinds of drama with my immidiate family, and it makes me not even want to spend time with my family for christmas, i just feel like i would enjoy working more then being around all the drama and heartache. so now it just seams like another day in life that cant be enjoyed anymore!

What Christmas means to me... That'll be a tough one. I wouldn't be able to answer this all that well, actually. All I ever do for Christmas is wake up, open presents with the family, and go back to sleep. I'm not at all close to them, so there's barely any chatter between them and me other than an idle "thank you" here and there. My friends are always with their families, so I spend Christmas alone in my room, or on the computer. Especially this Christmas. On the 13th a friend of mine named Joseph died. He slipped and fell off a radio tower while trying to stop his friend from committing suicide. So right now, I guess Christmas doesn't really have a meaning for me, it's just... there.

Hey Dawson, I love your blogs, especially this one about the Christmas season. I love Christmas myself, but nowadays it has become commercialized and a business time to sell and buy the bestest bargains, and the true meaning of Christmas goes over there heads. Christmas is suppose to be about the birth of Jesus Christ and also it is a time to be together with family and friends. So hope everyone celebrates Christmas to the fullest with family and friends, and not in the stores! May all of you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year 2009! Take care always from Gladys!

Hey Dawson, How are you doing brother, I love the show. I go to bed hearing the show to sleep every Sunday nite, I am here in Lawton, OK. Christmas you here about people getting up at wee hours of the nite to go to the local mall or store to get that cheapest bargain for their loved one. But here's the truth that hurts how many people out of the bunch will sacrifice their christmas eve and go to Midnight Mass or Service for that matter. I am not preaching in any means, dawson it just makes my stomach crumble in pieces of a story I seen in the paper of how that wanted to take Jesus out of Christmas, because Christmas is so commercialized and wrapped up in money and greed. I love Christmas, i am away from my family this year, along with away from my wives family, I wanted to stay home this year for the first time in 8 years. I love for what you do for society, Dawson. Take care and Thank you for what you do every single Day. ----Jason----

Hey Dawson, just wanted to comment on the Christmas thing, I absolutly LOVE Christmas not just becuz everyone is together but also that it's the time of year when people generally like to give the most. This year I didn't ask for much I'd much rather give to children and families who need something more than I do, like warm food or a cozy blanket. I think we all need to remind ourselves of what Christmas is really about you see all these commercials advertising with what we "want" and santa clause but there seems to be no Jesus in the picture or why we truely celebrate Christmas, I think we need to remember that Christmas is the day Mary gave birth to our saviour Jesus Christ, and that God has a plan for everyting. I am blessed to have the family I do others would rather skip this time, but I think we need to focus on why we have Christmas, it's not about the gifts and what we get or don't get, it's the fact that the virgin Mary gave birth to Jesus whom later on will die for our sins.
